The City of DREUX welcomes you to the last stop before the finish!
Dreux is a town steeped in history. The historic city center is dominated by the Chapelle Royale Saint-Louis. It was built in 1816 on the site of the former fortress of the Counts of Dreux, the ramparts of which can still be seen. In the chapel one can admire the beautiful gisants of the family of King Louis Philippe, and the beautiful stained glass windows that were manufactured in Sèvres. From the chapel’s gardens, visitors enjoy a panoramic view of the whole town.
Dreux’s town center, with its historical half-timbered houses dating back to the 12th century, is mostly pedestrianised these days.
It is dominated by the town hall’s belfry, built between 1512 and 1537 in a style unique to Eure-et-Loir. Unfortunately, you are unlikely to hear the magnificent bell that is housed in the belfry, as it rings only once a year in December to celebrate Les Flambarts, Dreux’s annual winter celebration.
Dreux is also a sporting town, hosting many international athletics meetings and top-flight basketball tournaments. In particular Dreux is a town with a soft spot for cyclists, organising stages of the Tour d'Eure-et-Loir, the start of the Paris Tours race in 2017, and, most prestigiously, the start of the 8th stage of the Tour de France in 2018. Let’s not forget too Dreux’s passion for cycle tourism!
Founded in 1947, Vélo Sport Drouais is proud to manage Dreux’s control for the 19th edition of this venerable cycling institution. This will be the fourth time that the municipality, for which we offer huge thanks, has made available the entire Palais des Sports, with its two big rooms, its powerful showers and spacious locker rooms, as well as the stadium area for parking bicycles, supporters and bike repairs. This means you can enjoy all the amenities you will need under one roof.
We are ready; all that remains is for you to cycle to us! Our indefatigable volunteers, without whom nothing is possible, will be working night and day to offer you the warmest welcome. We salute you for your efforts and offer our thanks to Audax Club Parisien for all their work over so many editions of this prestigious event.
President, Vélo Sport Drouais
