Start control

Machines will be inspected during wave set-up on the day of the start. This check will focus on safety features (helmet, lights, visibility vest), compliance of the machine with regulations (two- or three-wheeled cycles driven by handlebars and powered exclusively by muscle power, via a transmission system consisting of one or more crankset-chain assemblies) and correct positioning of the control chip. You are responsible for ensuring that your machine is in good condition.

Read the regulations carefully, you will find important details on the authorized cycles.

Controls

The route of this 21st edition of Paris-Brest-Paris is renewed, with a few new control points and cities visited and even more beautiful roads and viewpoints. It will take you from Rambouillet to Brest and back, in 16 stages.

CONTROL POINTS AND ACCOMMODATION AREAS

Stopping at Control Points is mandatory, participants will have to have their passage recorded by a stamp on their brevet book and by an electronic recording of the passage. These Controls Points are managed directly by the Audax Club Parisien, organizer of Paris-Brest-Paris, and are therefore an integral part of the event. Secret Controls Points may be put in place. If proof of your passage through one of the Control Points, official or secret, is missing, your approval will not be possible.

Accomodation areas (catering or overnighting), often located in the same cities and close to the control points, are optional stops. They are not under the responsibility of the Audax Club Parisien but are managed by the municipalities. They offer participants catering and sleeping (dormitory beds, showers) chargeable services (prices may differ). Third-party support is only possible next to the control points.

The detailed route of Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneurs 2027 will be communicated at a later date.

On the road

All along the route, you will experience the welcome of the public, who will be there day and night to applaud and encourage you. Adults, children, at any time of the day or night, they will be there to motivate you, sometimes loudly! This atmosphere makes Paris-Brest-Paris a unique event, which remains engraved in the memory of all those who have experienced it.

To make the most of it, it's a good idea to remember a few rules and principles:

Safety

Let's remind you of the very first rule: in France, you drive on the right side of the road!

Paris-Brest-Paris takes place on roads open to traffic, so you must respect the French traffic law (Code de la Route). For foreign participants, who are not familiar with the French traffic law , here are links to sites that give the main elements:

In French: https://www.securite-routiere.gouv.fr/reglementation-liee-aux-modes-de-deplacements/velo/regles-de-circulation-pour-les-cyclistes
In English: https://www.loirelifecycling.com/cycling-laws-in-france/

It is essential for your safety that you are clearly visible to motorists. As soon as visibility drops, put on your safety vest and turn on your lights.

Self supported or supported ?

Paris-Brest-Paris Randonneur is an self supported event, which you must accomplish by your own means and without assistance. Any assistance (a vehicle or a team dedicated to helping you) on the course is strictly forbidden, it will be sanctioned by a heavy penalty or disqualification (see regulations). Indeed, assistance on the course is contrary to the principle of self supported randonneuring of Paris-Brest-Paris, and the presence of support vehicles on the route poses safety problems on often narrow roads.

Assistance is only permitted in the control cities and their immediate surroundings. This assistance at controls must be declared at the time of registration.

But the help, encouragement and refreshments that are offered by the public to all participants are not considered assistance. Enjoy their generosity and kindness, exchange with them, you will please them and keep excellent memories.

Follow the route

The route, there and back, will be marked by arrows of different colours (one colour for each direction). However, we will also provide you with GPX files of the route that you can load into your GPS devices.
